Free Continuing Education Resources for Nurses
Need CE credits, but don’t want to break the bank? Here are some great options.
Florence Nightingale once said, “Let us never be finished nurses. We must be learning all our lives.”
It’s no secret that continuing education (CE) creates safer nurses—there’s a reason most states have CE requirements in order to renew your professional license!
Because healthcare is ever-evolving, nurses must rely on continuing education to stay up-to-date on new evidence-based practices. By prioritizing life-long learning, nurses can adapt to the challenges of modern healthcare and maintain the competency and expertise needed to meet the diverse needs of patients.
But let’s be honest: sometimes finding continuing education opportunities can be daunting. Not to mention the often hefty prices of CEs can add up quickly!
Luckily, I’ve rounded up some amazing resources that provide you with free CE opportunities. Check them out below.
American Nurses Association
The American Nurses Association (ANA) offers a plethora of CE courses across a wide variety of topics and while many of them require a fee, there are lots of free courses available, too. Simply visit their Continuing Education page and sort by “Price: Low to High” to find the free course options.
American Association of Critical Care Nurses
The American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACCN) has a dedicated free CE page with amazing courses for all nurses, whether you work in intensive care or not. Becoming an AACN member grants you access to unlimited free CEs, but non-members can take a select number of CE courses at no cost.
Center for Disease Control and Prevention
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers a ton of free CE opportunities for healthcare professionals. Simply visit their CDC TRAIN website and filter by “Free Courses.” There are literally hundreds to choose from!
NetCE
NetCE usually offers a few free CEs at any given time, but they can be a little tricky to find. Simply enter your state and professional role on their home page and NetCE will find CE courses specifically tailored to you that meet your state’s CE requirements. Then, scroll down until you see the “Free Courses” header to find the courses available to you at no cost.
NursingCE
NursingCE doesn’t offer many free CEs at one time—usually only one or two—but they are still valuable! Visit their dedicated Free Nursing CE page to view their current offering(s).
MyCME
MyCME offers dozens of free nursing CE courses on their dedicated page. From videos, to webinars and conferences, you’re sure to find something that interests you.
Elite Learning
Elite Learning usually offers a handful of free CE opportunities for nurses at any given time and they do change periodically. Check out their Free CE for Nurses page to see their current offerings.
